SH2-261 Lower's Nebula in Ha
SH2-261, or Lower's Nebula, is a Hydrogen Alpha emission region from the Sharpless catalog located in the upper area of Orion, near the Gemini constellation. The pillars and tendrils in the brighter areas of the nebula are most likely new star forming regions.

The nebula is named after amateur astronomers Harold Lower and his son Charles, who discovered this nebula in 1939 from a picture taken with their homemade 8 inch, f/1 Schmidt camera. This DSO discovery remained one of the last by an amateur until Jay McNeil's discovery of a nebula near M78 in 2004.
